A Day in the Life of a Regional Coordinator

My role within Blackwood is a newly created one, and is pretty much still evolving so there’s very rarely a typical day, however there are several main tasks that I make sure are carried out each day.

In the post we receive an average of 3-4 Housing Applications per day, and it is my job to review and score them, then correspond with the applicants and scan the forms into our Housing software system. I also answer customer and third party queries about the waiting list and carry out reviews of the existing applicants, as well as taking action with any suspended or closed records. One of my other main responsibilities is for the invoicing of Housing Support costs to the councils and individuals. Blackwood deal with several different local authorities who have very different processes and timescales, so good planning and accurate recording is essential.

My Co-ordination tasks include: making travel arrangements for AGM’s, meetings and courses; ensuring that Estate and Customer Home Visits are planned, communicated and completed regularly; keeping records of staff appraisal dates ; compiling data and information for the quarterly Business reviews and preparing the details as PowerPoint presentations.

I am on the committee of several project groups discussing topics such as Induction, Appraisals, Training and Tenant Scrutiny, and co-ordinate many of the tasks they create. There are many more tasks that crop up during each day, and basically I will turn my hand to anything that requires resources, while making sure my skills and experience are taken advantage of.

I have been with Blackwood for 10 months, having come from a long term Banking and Commerce background, and can honestly say that I am the happiest I have ever been at work. I have a huge amount of respect for my colleagues and a real pride in the business, which is very supportive to my ideas and ambitions and offers me many opportunities for self development.
