Working Tax Credit

The main changes to Working Tax Credit applies to the number of hours worked before you are allowed to claim it. These came into effect in April 2012.

For couples with children,- they are now required to jointly work 24 hours a week with at least one person working 16 hours in order to qualify for Working Tax Credits. This is an increase from 16 hours.

Single parents of all ages will still be entitled to Working Tax Credits as long as they continue to work 16 hours a week.

Over 50’s without children will be entitled to the basic Working Tax Credit provided they work 30 hours per week, however the "50-plus element" of Working Tax Credit (applicable to those who have been out of work for more than six months) has stopped altogether since April 2012.
