On 17th September 2014 we held our Annual General Meeting at the Glasgow Science Centre. This was our CEO Fanchea Kelly’s first AGM with Blackwood and it was a truly fantastic event! In Fanchea’s own words: “the venue really echoed that Blackwood is all about innovation!”
Bailie Anne Simpson was there to warmly welcome us and say a few words about our founder, Margaret Blackwood.
The exhibition was directly linked to our first tenant Charter Return, with each stall showcasing the work we, together with our tenant scrutiny panels (Team Blackwood), have achieved.
Our Foundation hosted an ‘Innovation Zone’ displaying how we use innovation to help people live their lives to the full through digital inclusion, Telecare, SMARTCare and technology that will see us into the future!
The highlight of the event was the incredible Exoskeleton courtesy of Steven Toon. It’s nickname, ‘Rex’, is the world’s first hands-free, self-supporting, independently controlled robotic walking device. The picture attached showing our Chair Stephen Gallagher agog speaks for itself in how impressive this equipment is!
Medecosse and Invacare kindly donated some older wheelchairs from the 1880s up to the present day football sport chair to show how they have developed and improved so dramatically.
The Blackwood Equation - The Movie premiered after the expo before the formal part of the AGM commenced.

The film will take you on a trip down memory lane back to when disabled people were fighting for rights and benefits in the 60s. Our Founder, Margaret Blackwood MBE, was at the forefront of campaigning for these rights. Her vision was for all disabled people to have a safe, affordable and adaptable home. The movie depicts how times have changed in government, community and technology and what the future holds for the next generation.
