About Us

Blackwood Homes and Care was founded in 1972 by Dr Margaret Blackwood MBE, a pioneering campaigner for the rights and independence of disabled people. Her vision was clear: everyone should have the opportunity to live independently, with the right housing, support, and choice.
Dr Blackwood was awarded an MBE for her tireless work to improve the lives of disabled people, particularly for challenging the lack of accessible housing and support. That founding vision continues to guide everything we do today.
Independence is not about being alone. It is about having choice, control, and support when you need it.

We are a Scottish charity helping people live life to the full through good-quality Landlord and Care Services. We provide housing, personalised care, and tailored support for people with a wide range of needs, with around 1,700 homes across 29 local authority areas in Scotland, supporting thousands of tenants and care customers.
What makes Blackwood different is that we deliver both housing and care. While not everyone uses both services, our experience across both strengthens the quality, flexibility, and understanding behind the support we provide.
We are committed to innovation in independent living. In housing, we invest in the design of beautiful, accessible homes that combine modern construction with inclusive technology. In care, we deliver a 24/7 digital support service, powered by CleverCogs™,our award-winning personalised platform that helps people stay connected, manage their care, and live more independently, both in their own homes and in care settings.
Blackwood Homes and Care is a non-profit organisation registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), charity number SC007658 .
