Who is eligible to apply?

Anyone aged 16+ can apply, including existing tenants wishing to transfer. We may also accept applications from younger people under 16 working with Social Services, in planning for a young person to leave care.

Can I apply for more than one area?

Yes, there’s no limit on the number of areas you can apply for. However, availability varies, so we’ll match you to properties that best meet your needs.

How many bedrooms can I apply for?

Bedroom allocations are based on household composition, with allowances for special needs, carers, or health reasons. Additional bedrooms may affect your housing benefit eligibility.

Can I keep a pet?

We understand that pets are part of the family, and we want you to enjoy living with them in your home. You need to tell us before keeping a pet, as we will take into consideration if they may cause issues to neighbours or property. Dog owners must ensure pets are well-controlled, microchipped, and do not cause nuisance. All XL Bully type dogs must be registered, in line with the Scottish Governments guidelines.

Does Blackwood’s insurance cover my belongings?

No. Blackwood’s insurance covers buildings and fixtures only. You are responsible for insuring your personal belongings. We recommend taking out contents insurance, and we can help you access affordable schemes.

What are my rent and maintenance responsibilities?

Rent is due monthly, usually on the 1st. Your rent covers property management and maintenance. You’ll receive details on your rent and any service charges when you move in.

What support is available?

We offer supported accommodation for those who need help living independently. Other support may be available through local authorities or our housing officers

How long will I wait for a home?

Wait times vary depending on demand, your priority, and the areas you apply for. We encourage you to apply early and keep your application updated.
